Santa Ana-based Wahoo’s Fish Taco has plans to open a restaurant in Japan, its first location outside the U.S.
The store will be operated by a franchisee and is set to open later this year, the company said.
The chain is known for its fish tacos and surf- and skate-themed restaurants.
Additional stores in the U.S. are also planned in the coming months as part of a growth strategy launched in 2009 aimed at doubling the company’s franchised restaurants by next year.
Last year saw the opening of the company’s first East Coast location in New York City.
Wahoo’s, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, counts more than 60 locations nationally, with more than half of in Southern California.
About half of the locations are operated by franchisees.
