The S&P 500 was up 0.41% to 1,840.86 in afternoon trading Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.61% to 16,456.76, while the Nasdaq was up 0.27% to 4,166.79.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.23% to 2.99%.

The price of gold was up 0.71% to $1,211.80 per ounce.


Newport Beach-based natural gas provider Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was down about 4% to $12.90 for a market value of $1.15 billion. Natural-gas prices rose this week, driven by cooler temperatures to reach highs not seen since 2011.


Anaheim-based action-sports retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. slipped about 7% to $3.34 for a market value of $228.74 million.

Meantime, competitors Zumiez Inc. of Washington and Irvine-based Tilly's Inc. were roughly flat.
