The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 0.91% to 2.87%.
The price of gold was down 2.51% to $1,225.60 per ounce.
Costa Mesa-based networking-equipment maker Emulex Corp. was off about 4% to $6.90 for a market value of $632.43 million. The company said it plans to cut about 10% of its workforce and close a Massachusetts engineering facility as part of a restructuring plan.
HEALTHCAREAliso Viejo-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals rose about 7% to $3.23, a day after slipping as much as 30% on an analyst downgrade and disappointing clinical trial results. Avanir had a recent market value of $469.86 million.
