The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.46% to 14,892.27, while the Nasdaq was up 1.05% to 3,630.96.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.65% to 2.76%.
The price of gold slipped 0.57% to $1,410.70 per ounce.
Irvine-based Broadcom Corp. was up about 2% to $25.52 for a market value of $14.78 billion.

Anaheim action-sports retailer Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. rose about 7% to $3.78 ahead of its second-quarter earnings release expected after market close Thursday. Pacific Sunwear had a recent market value of $258.77 million.
Pacific Sunwear’s results follow the quarterly report from competitor Tilly's Inc. of Irvine on Wednesday, which beat analyst expectations on net income. Tilly's was up less than 2% in afternoon trading today to a market value of $385.81 million.
