The S&P 500 was down 0.20% to 1,688.05 in afternoon trading Monday.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.19% to 15,395.76, while the Nasdaq rose 0.24% to 3,668.90.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 0.27% to 2.59%.

The price of gold rose 1.71% to $1,334.60 per ounce.


Huntington Beach-based apparel maker and retailer Quiksilver Inc. slipped about 3% to $5.65 after B. Riley & Co. downgraded the company' stock from "buy" to "neutral." Quiksilver had a recent market value of $944.91 million.


Santa Ana-based Universal Electronics Inc. shares were up about 8% to $35.25 for a market value of $536.50 million. The company, which makes wireless controls used for home and entertainment systems, reported second-quarter results last week that showed net sales and net income growth.
