The S&P 500 slipped 0.15% to 1,694.86 in afternoon trading Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.37% to 15,441.09, while the Nasdaq was up 0.01% to 3,669.68.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.12% to 2.58%.

The price of gold was up 0.45% to $1,291.10 per ounce.


Irvine subprime auto financing company Consumer Portfolio Services Inc. was up about 9% to $7.02 on revenue and profit growth for the second quarter first six months of the year. Consumer Portfolio Services had a recent market value of $142.34 million.


Shares of homebuilders were mixed on Friday.

Irvine-based Standard Pacific Corp. was up about 1% to $7.89 for a market value of $2.73 billion.

Newport Beach-based William Lyon Homes was down about 3% to $23 for a market value of $723.05 million.

Irvine-based TRI Pointe Homes Inc. shares were off about 2% to $14.78 for a market value of $467 million.


Irvine-based medical device maker Biolase Inc. shares continued their slide from Thursday, down about 19% to $2.04 for a market value of $64.74 million. Biolase closed down on Thursday by about 11% on disappointing second-quarter results released earlier in the week.
