The S&P 500 was down 0.09% to 1,705.35 in early afternoon trading Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.14% to 15,605.76, and the Nasdaq was up 0.07%, to 3,678.13.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down by 3.75%, to 2.62%.
The price of gold moved up 0.02%, to $1,311.50 per ounce.
Shares of Aliso Viejo-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. were up 2.8% to $4.89 ahead of its scheduled June-quarter earnings next Tuesday. The drug maker has a market value of about $709.6 million. Wall Street expectations point to an 85% growth in revenue year-over-year, to $19.4 million, along with net loss of about $16 million.
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies Inc. is down by 6.4%, to $2.80 per share. The chipmaker earlier this week reported its fiscal third-quarter results, including $35.6 million in revenue and $1.6 million in profit. An analyst report that downgraded Mindspeed stock, published Thursday, pushed along a selloff early Friday, to a market value of about $119 million.
