The parent of hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel said it will require its pork suppliers to stop using cages over the next 10 years.

Irvine-based Galardi Group Inc. said it will begin asking its suppliers for documentation showing how they intend to eliminate cages for pigs by 2022.

Wienerschnitzel totals 350 locations mostly in California and neighboring states.

Cypress-based Fresh Enterprises LLC, which operates the Baja Fresh, La Salsa Mexican Grill and Canyon's Burger chains, said in July it plans to have its pork suppliers stop using cages.

Fresh Enterprises' restaurant portfolio totals 279 restaurants.

Galardi Group and Fresh Enterprises join a number of other restaurant operators that have announced similar promises this year, including McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s.
