Anaheim-based luxury hybrid automaker Fisker Automotive Inc. named a former marketing executive at General Motors Co. and Hyundai Motor America Inc. interim chief commercial officer.

Joel Ewanick will oversee Fisker’s global marketing, sales and customer service divisions as the automaker searches for a permanent replacement for Richard Beattie, who is set to retire at the end of this week.

Ewanick had been working as a consultant to Fisker for the past six weeks before taking on the interim chief commercial officer duties on Tuesday. He continues to have a consultant status at Fisker, said a company spokesperson who declined to say if Ewanick is being considered for the permanent position.

Ewanick most recently served as vice president and global chief marketing officer at Detroit, Mich.-based General Motors Co. He is also a former vice president of marketing at Hyundai Motors America Inc., which has temporary headquarters in Costa Mesa.

Beattie, a former executive vice president of marketing and sales at Mahwah, N.J.-based Jaguar Land Rover North America, joined Fisker late last year to become the company’s first chief commercial officer.
