California State University, Fullerton, has received $95,740 from the National Science Foundation in an initial batch of funding to help boost the recruitment and retention of female faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The school is expected to get a total of $159,511 over two years.

An assessment will include interviews with about 15 former faculty members who have left the school to help analyze cultural and other issues that might have led to their departures, the school said.

Such efforts will give Cal State Fullerton an “opportunity to look at where we are, what we can improve upon to get more female faculty to apply to the university, and what they need to stay,” according to Susamma Barua, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
