Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Cypress-based Vans Inc. announced the sale of action sports protective gear brand Pro-tec.
Pro-tec is being sold to San Diego-based Dye Precision Inc. for an undisclosed amount. Dye Precision sells gear for the paintball, snow and tactical segments.
The deal is expected to close this quarter.
Pro-tec sells helmets, pads and other gear and shares office space here with Vans, which is part of Greensboro, N.C.-based VF Corp..
Vans acquired Pro-tec parent Mosa Extreme Sports in 2002.
“The Vans and Pro-tec brands share a complementary action sports heritage,” said Vans President Kevin Bailey in a statement. “But we believe that Dye Precision can provide Pro-tec a better operational fit and focus, which will allow the brand to thrive and reach its full potential.”
Vans is in the midst of a five-year growth plan to add $1 billion to its annual sales, which would take it to $2.2 billion by 2016. The company is focusing on a recently launched shoe line targeting a broader customer base, international growth and retail expansion among other initiatives.
