Retail Roundup: Latest OC Openings

Modern home goods retailer West Elm, part of San Francisco-based Williams-Sonoma Inc., opened Friday at South Coast Plaza.

The store is located in the upper level of space previously occupied by Borders.

The South Coast West Elm will be the chain’s first to offer a shop-within-a-shop concept selling goods made by local artists through a partnership with online crafting marketplace Etsy Inc.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. opened its smaller, grocery retail concept Walmart Neighborhood Market on Friday in Garden Grove.

The company opened its first Neighborhood Market in California in Huntington Beach this summer, followed by stores in Rancho Santa Margarita and Anaheim.

Westfield MainPlace mall in Santa Ana saw the opening of Swedish retailer H & M Hennes & Maurtiz AB’s H&M on Thursday.

It is the fast-fashion chain’s seventh store in Orange County after the Block at Orange, Brea Mall, Irvine Spectrum Center, Shops at Mission Viejo and two stores at South Coast Plaza.

The MainPlace H&M carries clothing for men, women and kids along with maternity, lingerie and accessories.

Earl of Sandwich opened Friday at the Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment district. Downtown Disney in Anaheim is part of the Disneyland Resort, which includes two theme parks and three hotels.

The sandwich chain also operates at the Downtown Disney districts in Orlando and Paris.

A franchisee of Maryland-based Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries is set to open the chain’s second OC location in Huntington Beach Nov. 8.

A lease in Fullerton is expected to be signed in a couple weeks, according to a spokeswoman, with an opening planned for February.

Additional leases in Huntington Beach and Fullerton are currently being sought, with longer term plans for five to 10 more stores in Orange County.
