Disney California Adventure’s Cars Land Attraction Opens

Kari Hamanaka Friday, June 15, 2012

Disney California Adventure’s new Cars Land debuted Friday morning, capping a five-year, $1.1 billion expansion and makeover of the theme park.

The 12-acre area within the park is themed after the Disney Pixar Animation Studios movie Cars and includes new rides and restaurants.

The park was closed to the public yesterday for the media and reopened Friday morning with a presentation outside the Carthay Circle Theatre.

A new entrance to California Adventure, named Buena Vista Street, launched with the Cars Land debut.

Buena Vista is themed after 1920s Los Angeles and is anchored by a remake of the Carthay Circle Theatre, which houses a new restaurant and lounge.

Friday's Cars Land and Buena Vista Street opening adds a total of four rides, eight eateries and more than a dozen other entertainment offerings to the park.
