David Goronkin, former chief executive of Cypress-based Real Mex Restaurants Inc., was hired to lead the San Diego parent of the Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurant chains.

Goronkin succeeds Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. founder and chief executive Michael Mack, who is leaving the company. Garden Fresh President Ken Keane is also leaving and his position will not be filled, the company said.

Garden Fresh operates a chain of nearly 130 soup and salad bar restaurants.

Goronkin left Real Mex in May after less than a year at the Mexican-inspired restaurant chains operator.
