Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. recently signed a lease for 65,000 square feet of former Albertson’s space in Huntington Beach.

The new store at Edinger Avenue and Goldenwest Street is expected to open in the fall with as many as 50 workers.

Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts retailer that has been growing in California in recent months, absorbing big box retail space. Hobby Lobby stores average 55,000 square feet.

The Huntington Beach lease follows the recent opening of Hobby Lobby’s 77,800-square-foot store in the Marketplace at Laguna Niguel shopping center. The property had previously been occupied by Mervyn’s.

Hobby Lobby totals more than 500 stores.
