Lake Forest-based Del Taco LLC is planning a big comeback in the Atlanta area.

The Mexican-inspired fast food chain opened a company-owned restaurant in suburban Snellville, Ga., earlier this week.

It’s the first of 60 Del Tacos planned for the Atlanta metropolitan area, with a mix of company-owned and franchised restaurants in the works.

The chain has plans for an April opening of its second Georgia restaurant, a company owned location in Kennesaw.

Del Taco had restaurants in Georgia that were co-branded with the Mrs Winner's Chicken and Biscuits chain in the 1990s. All of those had closed by the early 2000s.

Del Taco operates a chain of more than 530 restaurants, mostly in California and neighboring states.
