John Wayne Airport July Traffic Rises

John Wayne Airport saw July passenger traffic rise 4% from a year earlier to 816,536.

New service through Southwest Airlines' AirTran Airways, which includes flights to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City, made up about half the airport’s passenger traffic increase for the month.

AirTran began service to Mexico at John Wayne in June. AirTran also flies daily from John Wayne to Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Canadian airline WestJet, which offers service to Vancouver and Calgary had 14,012 passengers during the month.

Southwest led passenger traffic for the month at John Wayne with 309,452 travelers.

United Airlines was the next busiest carrier in July, with 140,020 passengers for the month. United has service to San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston among other places.

Total July air cargo at John Wayne rose 14.2% from a year earlier to 1,567 tons.
