The director and founder of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching in Dana Point was named a U.S. commissioner for the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission by President Barack Obama last week.

Donald K. Hansen will serve on a commission, which has its headquarters in La Jolla, and is made up of representatives from several countries responsible for conservation of tuna and other fish species in the eastern Pacific Ocean.

Hansen serves as vice president of the Sportfishing Association of California, a non-profit organization he has participated in since 1974. The association promotes tourism and recreational marine activities on the Pacific Coast.

He also is a former president of the Dana Point Harbor Association having served in the post from 1993 to 2008.
