Former Volcom General Counsel Headed to NikeTuesday, September 20, 2011
The former general counsel of clothing label Volcom Inc. is headed for Beaverton, Ore.-based Nike Inc.
Volcom makes clothes and accessories inspired by action sports and music.
Nike offers similar gear along with its longer established athletic lines.
Hoby Darling was with Costa Mesa-based Volcom for six years as general counsel and senior vice president of strategic development. He'll start as head of strategy and planning for Nike’s Affiliates division next month.
The division includes Nike-owned brands such as Hurley International LLC, Converse Inc. and Cole Haan.
Darling left Volcom in late July, according to a company spokesman. A replacement has not been named.
Darling helped see Volcom through an initial public offering while he was an attorney at Latham & Watkins LLP. He later joined the company, and played a key role in Volcom's $608 million sale earlier this year to Paris-based PPR SA, which owns Gucci, Puma and other luxury brands.
Darling also helped create Volcom University, which offers various business courses to company employees.
