Irvine-based Taco Bell Corp.’s head of marketing has resigned.

Chief Marketing Officer David Ovens resigned for personal reasons, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday.

Taco Bell is part of Louisville, Ky.-based Yum Brands Inc.

Ovens, who had been with Taco Bell since 2007, is expected to return to Australia with his family.

Chief Executive Greg Creed will oversee the company’s marketing department until a replacement for Ovens is found.

Ovens previously served as chief marketing officer for Yum Restaurants International in Australia and New Zealand.

He is credited with overseeing recent Taco Bell campaigns, including its Why Pay More menu that focused on price and Drive-Thru Diet offerings that highlighted healthier fare.
