Irvine-based heart valve maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp. said Thursday that it named William Link, a longtime OC healthcare venture capitalist, to its board of directors.
Link, who is 62, is a Newport Beach-based managing director and co-founder of Versant Ventures, a venture capital fund. Link was general partner at Brentwood Venture Capital before co-founding Versant in 1999.
Edwards believes Link’s background “complements the group well,” Chief Executive Michael Mussallem said in a statement.
Link has deep roots in the medical device business. As an example, he founded and served as chief executive and chairman of Chiron Vision, an eye surgery business that he sold to Bausch & Lomb Inc. in 1997.
Link also founded and served as president of American Medical Optics Inc., a company that eventually evolved into Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics Inc., which was sold to Abbott Laboratories earlier this year.
