Newport Beach’s Dwight Manley, a sports agent, real estate investor and coin collector, gave $250,000 to fund scholarships for young coin scholars. He made the donation to the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based American Numismatic Associa-tion and its Florence Schook School of Numismatics. In 1981, Manley was awarded a $400 scholarship to attend a summer seminar at the school. In 2003, he sold his 1913 Liberty Nickel, which he bought for $1.84 million, for a then-record $3 million. In 2002, Manley gave $250,000 to help renovate the American Numismatic Associa-tion’s headquarters.

Costa Mesa-based Experian Information Sol-utions Inc., part of the Britain’s Experian Group Ltd., donated $50,000 to Mercy House. Mercy House, based in Santa Ana, provides housing and other basic necessities to the homeless.

Providence Speech and Hearing Center raised $110,000 at its 25th Annual Golf Classic at Tustin Ranch Golf Club.

Dana Point-based Ocean Institute’s Build-a-Boat Challenge raised $55,000 for preservation of the Institute’s two tall ships, the Pilgrim and Spirit of Dana Point.

Tim Shaw and Sindy Godfrey were named Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2009 Man and Woman of the Year for Orange County. They raised $43,953 for blood cancer research. Shaw is a stand-up comedian who won OC’s Funniest Person Contest last year. Godfrey is owner of Events that Rock, a publicity and marketing company.

Bank of America Foundation donated $40,000 to Orangewood Children’s Foun-dation in support of teens transitioning out of foster care.

Santa Ana-based Wahoo’s Fish Taco’s Cure Card campaign raised $5,897 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, OC/Inland Empire chapter’s Team in Training program. Wahoo’s customers could purchase a gift or cure card to the restaurant and have 5% donated to the society.

Costa Mesa-based OC Motorsports donated $5,000 to the Lusk Legacy Foundation in honor of Jeremy Lusk, who died earlier this year in a freestyle motocross accident. Lusk rode for Metal Mulisha, a brand of Irvine-based apparel maker La Jolla Group Inc. The foundation works to protect the lives of riders and their families in the event of injury or death.

Ingram Micro Inc. donated $5,000 to the Santa Ana School District’s Career Beginnings, a mentoring program that helps students.
