For Health Inc. is acquired by San Diego-based Geriatrix

Geriatrix, a San Diego-based healthcare company, said last week that it acquired For Health Inc., Costa Mesa, for $7.4 million in stock. Geriatrix said the transaction will give it an annual revenue base of about $20 million.

The deal brings together two complementary companies, said Jill Mendlen, Geriatrix president and chief executive, in a statement. Charles Birmingham, For Health’s chairman and chief executive, said that For Health’s systems and programs will continue as part of Geriatrix.

Geriatrix and For Health specialize in providing what they describe as enhanced Medicare services to nursing home residents with frailty problems. In a release, Geriatrix said it primarily serves people 85 or older who belong to Medicare plus Choice health plans.

For Health and Geriatrix manage the medical and social care of approximately 1,500 nursing home residents and similar services to 8,500 other senior citizens who are temporarily living in nursing homes following hospital stays.

For Health’s acquisition brings Geriatrix into Orange County, Los Angeles County, Arizona and Rhode Island, with a scheduled expansion into New York City.
