Irvine-based National InterBank has added former Goldman Sachs International chairman Eugene Fife to its advisory board.
His son, David Fife, is a founding partner and principal in the Irvine investment firm, Fife Waterfield & Co., that launched National InterBank earlier this year.
Eugene Fife was a general partner at Goldman Sachs & Co. where he put in more than 25 years. He was the resident manager of the San Francisco office and in 1986 he moved to London where he became the chairman of Goldman Sachs International. In 1990, he was elected to the firm’s management committee. He retired in 1995. Currently, he is the founding principal of Vawter Capital LLC, co-chairman of the board of directors of Illuminus.com, and serves on the boards of Eclipsys, Inc. and GreatLodge.com.
National InterBank is an Internet-only bank launched this year by Fife Waterfield. The bank has raised $10 million and is looking for a $40 million to $50 million venture capital round this summer.
“If we meet our growth projections, we’ll have to go public in December,” said Richard Waterfield, the co-chairman and CEO of the bank.
