Extreme Sports Filmmaker on Board With AMC

Script to Screen Tees Off With Ad Spots; Costa Mesa Touts Offerings

On Board Entertainment, a youth-oriented entertainment division of Disson Furst & Partners in Huntington Beach, has signed a one-year contract with AMC Entertainment Inc. to exhibit its Adrenaline Theater action sports films at 40 AMC theater locations across the U.S and Canada.

The year-long film series, which will debut its first 40-minute flick, “Hit & Run,” on Aug. 4 at the AMC Block 30 in Orange, features films on surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, motocross and other extreme sports. Swell.com and Gillette’s Right Guard Xtreme Sport anti-perspirant are official sponsors of the project. The shows are held on Friday and Saturday nights and target teens and young adults. Tickets are $6. Other films are set to be released in the next 12 months.

Disson Furst & Partners’ Huntington Beach office markets to people in generations X and Y and specializes in alternative and extreme sports, music and lifestyle events. The firm negotiates sponsorships and creates events for snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, inline skating, live concerts and college tours. Bonnie Crail, former vice president of global marketing for K2, heads up the office.

Script to Screen, a 23-employee multimedia production company in Santa Ana, recently completed its third campaign for PRGR, a Japanese golf club manufacturer whose American division is based in Torrance. The firm produced 60- and 30-second direct response spots demonstrating PRGR’s 200I utility golf club and featuring PGA Tour player Corey Pavin. The company also has produced infomercials for Adams Golf, TaylorMade Golf and Alien Sport.

Script to Screen also is producing an infomercial for Fountain Valley-based Trinity Golf. Trinity announced it will begin airing the infomercial about its new Stiletto Beta Ti driver in August. The 30-minute video is set to appear on ESPN, Golf Channel and Fox Sports Net. Trinity also recently signed an agreement with SlotlineGolf.com, a Huntington Beach-based company that has made high-end putters for 25 years and marketed them under the names Inertial, Gunsight and Big Mo. Under terms of the agreement, those brands now will be marketed as SlotlineGolf.com.

High-End Couponing

The Costa Mesa Conference & Visitor Bureau has launched a gift certificate package available to guests at the city’s hotels, including Country Inn & Suites by Ayres, Doubletree Hotel, Costa Mesa Marriott Suites, Holiday Inn, Residence Inn by Marriott, Westin South Coast Plaza and the Wyndham Garden Hotel.

The packages, dubbed “A Gift From Us to You,” include coupons for retail purchases, dining, transportation and entertainment available at such city landmarks as Antonello Ristorante, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Ben Bridge jewelers, The Clubhouse and Orion Limousine Service.

Joe Bann, general manager of the Doubletree and president of the bureau, said the package is designed to illustrate why Costa Mesa is the “best of Southern California” by inviting guests to sample its dining, shopping and visual and performing arts. “We want to provide additional value for our guests when their travels take them to Southern California,” Bann said. The package has an estimated value of $425.

Freedom Takes Home the Gold

Irvine-based Freedom Communications Inc. recently picked up eight awards for its 1999 annual report from the International Academy of Communications Arts and Sciences.

The privately held parent company of the Orange County Register won two gold citations as well as six awards for writing, cover design and interior design. The gold awards were in the category of general media companies, which included entries from Knight-Ridder, Gannett, Belo, and The Tribune Co., while Freedom also picked up an honor in the privately held companies category for photography shot by the Orange County Register’s Mike Goulding.

Freedom’s Annual Report was designed by Ontario-based Stewart/Holt Advertising and written by Mike Lednovich, Freedom’s director of corporate information, and Nancy Souza, manager of corporate information.

Bowling for Ads?

Break out your best bowling shirt because the Orange County Ad Club is holding its annual bowling night. Newsweek magazine is sponsoring the Best Bowling Shirt contest. The bowling night will be held 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Tuesday at Irvine Lanes, 3415 Michelson Drive. The event is underwritten by LTC Group and InSync Media.

Irvine-based BDS Marketing formed a strategic alliance with Frodyma On-Site, a national agency specializing in Hispanic and general market event marketing and promotion. Larry Frodyma, who found the Anaheim-based Frodyma On-Site, is the former director of operations for BDS Meguiar’s, an Irvine provider of car care products, will debut its Ford Focus dragster at the Toyo Tires/National Import Racing Association race in Maryland on July 23. ESPN2 will air the race as well as Meguiar’s Super Tuner Fest Car Show Caroline Janik-Wong was hired as marketing assistant for the Orange County Film Commission, a part of the Media Alliance of Orange County and the new Center for Entertainment and Tourism that was launched late last year at California State University, Fullerton.
