Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, an Aliso Viejo-based drug maker, said Monday that it's selling a generic version of an irritable bowel syndrome drug.The drug maker said its Oceanside Pharmaceuticals division will sell an authorized generic of Librax.
The brand-name version of Librax was originated by Roche AG of Switzerland.
Irritable bowel syndrome is characterized by chronic abdominal pain, bloating, discomfort and diarrhea. The disease affects some 55 million Americans, mainly women.
Valeant is mainly known for making drugs for conditions that affect the skin and nervous system.
